Brief Summary of John F. Kennedy´s Life - 1017 Words

Throughout the twentieth century, there were vigorous leaders and inauspicious leaders. One of the top leaders happen to be John Fitzgerald Kennedy of the United States of America. John Fitzgerald Kennedy very prosperous leader was his speeches that he gave to the american people and to the world trying to make the world a much higher quality place to live. He also asked the american people â€Å"Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.† John Fitzgerald Kennedy was born May 29, 1917 in Brookline, Ma. He was born into a very wealthy family the Fitzgerald and the Kennedy’s, both were prominent Irish Catholic families. In 1956, JFK was nearly preferred as a Democratic presidential candidate. In 1960, JFK was determined to run for United States President. Then on November 8, 1960, Kennedy crushed Nixon through a razor-thin margin, and JFK was announced the 35th President of the United States of America. When JFK was elected he was named a historic president in several respects. Because at the age of 43 he was the second youngest American president in history, second only to Theodore Roosevelt, who was elected at the age of 42. JFK was also the first ever Catholic president and the first born in the 20 century. His most legendary inaugural address was on January 20, 1961, when JFK sought to inspire all Americans to more active citizenship. â€Å"Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country.† Some of JFK’s tremendous accomplishments during his brief tenure as president, was creating the Peace Corps by executive order in 1961. By the end of the 20th century, there were over 170,000 citizens enlisted that would serve in 135 countries. In 1961, JFK decided to create the Alliance for Progress to foster the greater economic ties with Latin America, in hope of alleviating poverty and thwarting the advancement of communism. On April 15, 1961 JFK authorized a covert mission to abolish leftist Cuban leader Fidel Castro with a company of 1,500 CIA-trained Cuban refugees.
